Session Fees and Rebates

Session fees start from $100 AUD depending on the appointment duration (e.g. 30 minutes - 2-hour appointments). Please see below for further information. Rebates are available through Medicare in Australia and Private Health Insurance where applicable. If you are eligible for a Medicare Rebate, it will substantially reduce your out-of-pocket expense per session ($85.20). I also accept private pay appointments.

30-minute appointment (Telephone or Zoom)

1-hour appointment

With a Medicare rebate of $85.20, you pay $114.80 AUD.

90-minute appointment

With a Medicare rebate of $85.20, you pay $214.80 AUD.

2-hour appointment

$400 AUD

With a Medicare rebate of $85.20, you pay $314.80 AUD.

Medicare Rebates

Medicare offers rebates for Australian permanent residents and citizens to specialised allied mental health professionals. You do need however, to first visit your General Practitioner (GP) and explain your mental health concerns and obtain a referral. Your GP will give you a “Mental Health Care Plan” and a referral letter, which entitles you to Medicare rebates. Note that without a referral letter, you will not be able to receive your Medicare rebate.

For your convenience, our practice takes payment via credit/debit card as well as EFT (i.e. bank account transfer). Your Medicare Rebate will be processed through Medicare’s online system and credited directly into your nominated bank account, so that you will not need to go to a Medicare Office. It usually takes one business day for your Medicare rebate to appear in your bank account.

All you need to do upload your Mental Health Care Plan and GP referral letter here or email it to anthonyhansencounselling@gmail.com before your first consultation with us and we will organise the rest. From 2023, you are entitled up to 10 Medicare-rebatable sessions in a calendar year (i.e. from January to December).

Private Health Rebates

A substantial proportion of your consultation fee may be reclaimed through private health fund, if you have Extras cover for Counselling. If you would like to know the amount of rebate you are entitled to, you will need to contact your respective health fund. Kindly note that if you will not be able to make a claim through your private health fund if you have already obtained a Medicare rebate for a particular appointment.
